    Best Vacation Ever!!!!!

My husband and I had stayed on the island a few months ago and just knew that the children and grand children would love it as much as we did,and they did. It was beautiful to see our entire family swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking around the island. Robin is so helpful with the rental process, and Blake (the local property manager) is a great guy who went out of his way to make sure our family had everything we needed, a real A1 guy!

There Is Lots Of Treasure To Be Found

My wife and my kids decided that the whole family needed a vacation. I'm not much for vacations, but I found myself, and my kids having a blast snorkeling! We found an abandoned boat, seen dolphins, and even caught lobster! Great place.

A Great Place For The Kids

With the houseboat, and the island, our kids had plenty to do this vacation. This island is perfect for weddings, and perhaps an anniversary! Will return next year!

This past winter was one of the worst for northern Indiana. Dealing with no sunlight and being buried in several feet of snow for most of the winter, we were questioning our very sanity by mid January. Before my wife had a nervous breakdown, we elected to use up some airline miles and found this quaint little island near Marathon in the keys. We enjoy camping and were looking for something rustic and more unique than just staying in a typical hotel. This was a perfect solution to our winter blues and was quite an adventure. We flew into Miami arriving late night, the owners of the island even recommended an affordable motel on the way to the rendezvous point because you have to check in during the day. We woke early the next morning and drove down to the meeting spot. There our contact person met us and took us out on a small skiff to the island and gave us a tour and instructions on just about everything relating to our stay on the island. The island does not have sleeping accommodations on it, however there are lots of comfy hammocks if you want to sleep under the stars and a nice picnic area with a fire pit and a generator (which provides power to the houseboat that is parked on a large pier on the island). We had a blast exploring nearby areas with the skiff, there are kayaks provided on the island, and one morning we even had two dolphins that were launching out of the water just a few feet away from our pier. Just a short ride from the island on the mainland there is a great restaurant/bar called the Island Fish Co. and they have great drinks and the food was good too! We enjoyed several meals there during our stay, and also grilled out on the island and enjoyed the privacy and seclusion that the island offers. Sitting by the fire pit each night felt like we were on "Survivor" (thankfully my wife didn't vote me off the island). We did invite some friends from the Marathon area over during the day for a cookout. There are several very large iguanas that hang out on the island, however if you leave them alone they don't bother you and they love bananas. Next time we "may" bring the kids because of the camping aspect of the island. It's a lot of fun and so quiet and peaceful at night. Highly Recommend to anyone looking to get away from civilization for a week to unwind.

    Perfect Getaway For Selfish Reasons

If you like semi rustic conditions and loads of privacy, this is the spot! We booked this rental for a week in February for our first "getaway from it all" vacation. Though Key West is only 40 miles away if you need some excitement and there's plenty of local attractions: restaurants, shops, parks, turtle hospital, beaches, etc.. There's no telephone, TV, radio/stereo, wireless connections (bring your own electronic communication and/or entertainment requirements- we did). We loved the fact that you had absolute privacy on the island. With a comfortable hammock for two and a gas grille to cook with. A place to launch and retrieve your kayaks (provided) and 2 entry points to enter the water for swimming and snorkeling (gear also provided) made it convenient since there is no beach on the island. The composting toilet was non intrusive (no smell like other outdoor facilities and patio furniture was adequate and comfortable for our needs like tanning, dining and stargazing. Sunsets over the water and limited light pollution made for great viewing! More stars than I'd seen in a long time... Oh! There are iguanas on the island too! A nice surprise.
We were met by Bob, the property manager for the island. He was great! He informed us of any requirements we needed to know to ensure our comfort- for the houseboat, the small boat (our transportation to and from the island (30-49 minutes), the generator and any limitations that might require his assistance. Brought us out and got us settled, gave further instruction regarding the houseboat, told us about the current fishing trends (fishing gear also provided), gave us his business card and left us to enjoy our idyllic surroundings. Which we did, enjoying the quiet solitude that was so desperately needed.
As for detractors I'd say that the limited hot water, the houseboat's water capacity in general-fine for 2 water conservative people, and the noisy generator on the island were the main ones for us. A quieter generator and a electrical connection in one or both pavilions would be great additions for plugging in a radio for music, powering a computer, etc. We were slightly put out by the cleanliness- dog hair from a previous guest and such but we quickly took care of it on our own. The electrical system on the houseboat was touchy but functional. The refrigerator is on the small side but we made daily ice trips to fill the coolers provided. Can't advise on heating or cooling because there was no need for us at the time. Not all windows had screens which made bugs a mild concern.
Would we rent this property again-YOU BET, absolutely!
Thanks Bob and Shari. Thanks Pam. We had a great and relaxing experience!

    Really Great Get Away!

We had a great time. The island is as beautiful as its photos. The houseboat is a little "rustic," but it is hard to keep something in good shape with the weather. One lesson we learned was to take supplies to the island/boat - as we got "stuck" on the mainland for 2 days when the weather/seas got rough and the small boat wasn't safe to travel in.

Overall, the trip was a wonderful get-a-way - close enough to civilization to run in for lunch, but far enough away to feel alone. The snorkeling was great at the island, too!

Pam and the staff were wonderful - very helpful and worked with us closely to be sure we had everything planned that was necessary. We do plan to go again!

We had a great time we did a lot of fishing and relaxing on the houseboat. It was like camping out but with comfort. The property manager, Bob, went out of his way to make sure we had a good time.

    Fun Adventure

Renting the houseboat was a unique experience. I was concerned about the logistics of our stay, but we were well instructed on the workings of the houseboat and island, and felt comfortable there. We went with our young sons, and they had freedom to run around and explore - however there is not any open space on the island. Most of it is mangrove and there is no beach, so most of the useable space is under the metal canopies where the grill and patio table are. The houseboat is well equipped, but basic. We didn't do any cooking, but a generator allows you to use the fridge/microwave/toaster/coffeemaker and there is a propane stove and cooler. A grill on the island was our main source of meals. Fishing poles/snorkel equipment and kayaks were all provided, and except for the occasional grocery run, made leaving the island almost unnecessary. It was a great experience.

    A Great Time

We so enjoyed our trip to Quiet Cove Key & the house boat. John & the guys who helped us get set up went way above & beyond what we had expected. The entire experience was above and beyond anything we could of imagined. The solitude and privacy was amazing, we were greeted by dolphins in the mornings & evenings almost every day we were there. The Pelican’s were fun to watch, the kayaks were cool, and there was fishing poles & snorkel gear. If you are a camper this is the place for you, if you are a hotel person than probably not. The Island Fish company was about a 10 minute boat trip and had amazing food & service. The Holiday inn express in Marathon is also a very nice place to stay while waiting to board your boat or island.
We told every person we talked to at all of these places that Rent My Island is the best kept secret of the Keys.
